Design Language
The Changan Oshan X5 PLUS adopts an athletic exterior design language. Up front, it features a borderless grille adorned with dot-matrix inserts and contrasting colour accents; sharp headlamp clusters combine with sculpted 3D body lines to deliver an aggressive, forward-leaning stance. Along the sides, pronounced dual character lines flow smoothly, giving the SUV a sleek, elongated profile. At the rear, dual-blade LED tail lamps, a sporty roof spoiler, and a diffuser-style lower bumper garnish further accentuate its sporty credentials. In terms of dimensions, the SUV measures 4,540 mm long, 1,860 mm wide, and 1,610 mm (or 1,620 mm) tall, with a 2,715 mm wheelbase. A total of seven exterior colours are available: Fengmang White, Haoyu Blue, Xingji Grey, Yaodong Red, Yao Black, Shuoyin Grey, and Xingyun Green.
Inside, the Changan Oshan X5 PLUS features a clean, tech-focused cabin layout. Taking centre stage on the dashboard is an expansive 30-inch wraparound smart triple-screen display, which integrates a digital instrument cluster, a central infotainment touchscreen, and a dedicated driver-assist screen on the left, enabling seamless three-screen interaction and data sharing. The cabin is available in two colour schemes: Fashion Vitality and Smoked Black Sport. One-piece semi-bucket sports seats echo the athletic exterior styling. In addition, the interior provides 26 dedicated storage spaces, complemented by 115 targeted NVH soundproofing treatments.
Powertrain and Performance
Under the bonnet, the Changan Oshan X5 PLUS is powered by a Blue Whale new-generation NE1.5T high-pressure direct-injection turbocharged petrol engine. It churns out a maximum power of 138 kW (188 PS) and a peak torque of 300 Nm, with maximum torque on tap across a 1,600–4,100 rpm rev band. Equipped with a Variable Geometry Turbocharger (VGT), throttle response from a standstill takes just 360 ms. Power is sent to the wheels via a Blue Whale 7-speed wet dual-clutch transmission (DCT). The 0–60 km/h sprint is completed in just 3.8 seconds, while the official 0–100 km/h acceleration takes 7.51 seconds, on to a top speed of 205 km/h. For fuel efficiency, the WLTC combined fuel consumption is rated at 6.25 L/100 km; an active air shutter grille automatically opens and closes depending on driving conditions to reduce aerodynamic drag. The engine runs on minimum RON 92 petrol.
Chassis and Handling
The Changan Oshan X5 PLUS adopts a front-engine, front-wheel-drive (FWD) layout. The suspension setup consists of front MacPherson struts and a rear multi-link independent suspension, which is a rare, premium feature in this segment. The electric power steering (EPS) offers three selectable levels of steering weight. Front braking duties are handled by ventilated disc brakes. In terms of driving dynamics, the vehicle features six selectable drive modes, including Smart Mode (which automatically toggles between Eco, Comfort, or Sport depending on driving habits) and Track Mode (which synchronises race-themed graphics across all three screens alongside simulated engine sound effects).
Cabin and Features
In terms of in-car technology, the Changan Oshan X5 PLUS is equipped with the OnStyle 5.1 intelligent operating system. Powered by an MTK high-performance octa-core chipset, it supports 4G telematics connectivity and OTA software updates. The system integrates over 200 everyday driving scenario presets, supporting exterior voice commands, facial recognition, and gesture controls. Standard comfort and convenience features across the range include a reverse camera with parking sensors, Auto Brake Hold, a panoramic sunroof, keyless entry with push-button start, remote engine start, a full digital instrument cluster, and full-LED headlamps. Higher-spec variants add the FaceID 3.0 facial recognition system (enabling keyless facial entry), Qianliyan 2.0 remote surveillance (for real-time vehicle monitoring via smartphone), and Bodyguard Mode 2.0 (automatic event recording in the event of an impact). The audio setup also includes an integrated mic-free in-car karaoke function.
Safety and Driver Assistance
Safety-wise, the Changan Oshan X5 PLUS is built with 78% high-strength steel, supported by an integrated Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) and a comprehensive multi-airbag system. Active safety kit includes standard stability control, Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), and a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS); higher variants add Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Forward Collision Warning (FCW), and more. Driver assistance hardware comprises 12 millimetre-wave radars and 4 fisheye cameras. The range-topping trim features the EaglePilot 7.0 voice-activated automated valet parking system, supporting voice-directed parking, remote vehicle summon, and private memory parking functions. Other driver aids include full-speed Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), a 360-degree surround-view monitor, and a 540-degree transparent chassis camera view.
Market Performance and Verdict
The Changan Oshan X5 PLUS has maintained stable market momentum following its launch, recording consistent monthly sales between 4,000 and 6,000 units. Owner feedback has been largely positive, praising its striking sporty exterior, punchy Blue Whale powertrain, high-tech 30-inch triple display, and generous level of intelligent equipment. The combination of a 1.5T turbo engine and multi-link independent rear suspension gives it a distinct cost-to-performance edge in its price segment. On the other hand, some owners have noted that wind and tyre noise become noticeable at cruising speeds above 100 km/h, alongside minor feedback regarding firmer seat padding and slightly stiff ride comfort over uneven surfaces. Overall, leveraging its strong sporty DNA alongside Level 2 ADAS capabilities, the Changan Oshan X5 PLUS has carved out a solid niche in the RM100,000 ICE SUV category thanks to its differentiated positioning.
